SKILLCAST: building digital skills through shared creativity
What could recording a podcast, sharing an experience or telling a story teach us about using digital tools?
SKILLCAST takes a practical, participatory approach to digital learning. Through podcasting, basic audio editing and digital storytelling, the project helps adult educators develop the methods and confidence they need to support people who face barriers to digital participation.
Coordinated by IWM GmbH in Germany, with Association Petite Graine as the French partner, this Erasmus+ project runs from 1 September 2026 to 31 August 2027. Local activities will take place in Thuringia, Germany, and Haute-Garonne, France.
Learning by creating
In SKILLCAST, creating digital content is a way to learn: planning a story, recording a voice, organising files, editing audio and sharing a finished piece.
These activities aim to build practical skills that adults can use in everyday life, further learning and employment-related situations. Alongside technical skills, the approach encourages confidence, collaboration and greater digital independence.
Learning methods will be designed for people with different starting points, using step-by-step activities and resources that educators can adapt for low-qualified and multilingual groups.
Who is the project for?
SKILLCAST primarily supports adult educators, trainers and facilitators, including people working in community organisations, adult-learning providers and local support services.
The pilot workshops will involve adults aged 35 and over who face barriers to digital inclusion, learning or employment. Particular attention will be given to jobseekers, adults with migrant or displacement backgrounds, and people living in rural and remote mountain areas.
What will happen during the project?
Understanding needs and designing the approach. Desk research and focus groups in France and Germany will explore learners’ barriers, useful existing practices and local needs. Their findings will inform the development of learning modules, activity templates and practical teaching resources.
Training educators and testing the methods. The project plans to train 15 adult educators and facilitators through a training course in Germany. Local pilot workshops will then test the approach in both countries, aiming to reach 64 adult learners. Feedback from participants and educators will help refine the materials.
Sharing resources for continued use. An openly accessible toolkit will be published in English, French and German, bringing together reusable activities, facilitation guidance and learning-assessment tools. Two events will share the results with adult-education and employment-support organisations and encourage wider use of the approach.
Association Petite Graine’s role
As the French partner, APG leads the desk-research activity, carries out the research in Haute-Garonne and brings together the French and German findings in a comparative report.
The association also contributes to the teaching methodology, organises the local consultation and pilot workshops in France, participates in educator training and shares the resources through its networks.
Through SKILLCAST, we aim to strengthen accessible, creative adult learning that responds to local realities and uses digital tools to support expression, learning and participation.
